Flour Mill Level Control Problem Solved at Cargill Flour Mill in Port of Albany, NY In the spring of 2000, a large Cargill Flour Mill in Port of Albany NY was attempting to address a difficult level control problem. Through the "College of Hard Knocks" the plant personnel had just determined that their significant investment in "Brand X" ultrasonic level transmitters was a huge problem.
Fortunately
for Cargill, Princo became aware of their problem and got involved. It was determined that the "real" issue
was to detect when the silo was "full" to prevent overfilling.
They needed a "reliable" point level controller.
The Princo series L3500 was the ideal choice, as it has both the sensitivity and the stability plus FM approval for installation in Class 1, Divisions 1 & 2, Groups C, D, E, F, & G hazardous locations. Due
to the light powdery consistency of flour, it has a very low effective
dielectric constant. Therefore, to
obtain a reliable, repeatable trip point, Princo designed a special flange
mounted probe.
Due to their experience with the "Brand X" supplier, Cargill was very demanding of Princo and insisted on: on-site factory start-up assistance, a 100% Application Guarantee, on-demand rapid response factory tech support, and of course, competitive prices and deliveries. As a result, Cargill Flour Mill in Port of Albany NY purchased and installed more than 100 of these units. They were installed during the summer of 2000, and have been providing satisfactory service ever since. |
